Ever since I was a teenager, I always knew I'd be a writer. I went to college to study journalism and worked at the newspaper as a reporter, but I quickly realized that it wasn't the right way for me to use my writing skills.
When I graduated from college, I started working in communications and fundraising for non-profit organizations. I worked at a nonprofit helping people with a nervous system disease, a small organization that provided affordable housing to people living in poverty and a camp/program for children living with HIV/AIDS. It was very rewarding. But I was laid off when the tiny organization I worked with was ready to close its doors.
It was time for a new chapter. I started working with a local author to help him organize his book and met a company looking for help writing the content for the websites they were designing. A few years later, I taught myself everything I could possibly gather about social media and I started managing Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and more for other businesses. My own business just kept growing from there.
I've always loved learning and just about everything fascinates me. And I really love being my own boss. I work from my home office and intend to do so when we're lucky enough to have a child. My parents are retired and are excited to be around during the day to help out, but I'm so lucky that I get to be present and fully participate in every aspect and phase of our little one's life.
I'm so looking forward to seeing what brings a sparkle to our child's eye and to nurture whatever it is that interests him/her. Maybe we'll even put a little desk next to mine in the office, just to get started. =)
